As Centre Director Professor Simmons has pioneered unique technologies globally to build electronic devices at the atomic scale. Her team has made the first precision single atom transistor, the narrowest conducting wires in silicon, demonstrated single shot spin read-out in devices fabricated with atomic precision in all 3 spatial dimensions, and has most recently demonstrated the fastest 2-qubit gate in silicon. With over 400 peer reviewed publications, 44 patents and >250 invited/plenary talks, she is widely regarded as the creator of the new field of atomic electronics. In 2017 she founded and serves as a Director of Australia’s first quantum computing company, Silicon Quantum Computing Pty Ltd. She is Editor-in-Chief of npj Quantum Information, Nature’s premier journal in the emerging field of quantum information science.
