Neil graduated from the Royal Military College – Duntroon in 1991 and served as an Artillery Officer in the Australian Regular Army for 30 years. He transitioned from the Australian Army at the rank of Brigadier joining the Centre in February 2020. Neil served in a broad range of regimental, command, operational, staff and training appointments during his military career. His operational service includes tours of Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and the Greater Middle East Area. He has also served on disaster relief missions in Indonesia in 2009 and Australia in 2019 – 2020. Neil has held appointments as an Instructor in Gunnery at the Australian Army School of Artillery and as the Exchange Instructor at The United States Army Field Artillery School.
Neil holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Management (Southern Cross University), Master’s Degree in Management (Defence Studies) (University of Canberra) and a Masters of Business Administration (Deakin). He is a Graduate of The Australian Command and Staff College (Weston Creek) and a Fellow of The Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies (Weston Creek). Neil is a Member of The Order of Australia (Military Division), a recipient of The United States Army Meritorious Service Medal, United States Army Bronze Star Medal and the NATO Medal. He has also been recognised with a range of Australian operational and long service medals.
