CQC2T Seminar (UNSW Sydney) Coupled erbium ions in silicon

Speaker – Dr Chunming Yin:

Erbium has been use widely in fibre optics technology for its telecom wavelength optical transition and it has proven to have long spin life-time and coherence time [1]. Optical access to single erbium ions in silicon is appealing for integrating spin devices by coupling distant single spins using silicon-based optical cavities. In previous work, we developed an optical/electrical hybrid approach to address the electron and nuclear spins of a single erbium ion in a silicon nan-transistor. I[2]n this talk, you will hear our recent discovery of two erbium ions that are strongly couple by magnetic dipole interaction.
