In my research I’m working to develop quantum information devices using rare earth ions in crystals. I study the optical and spin properties of the rare earth ions with high-resolution optical spectroscopy, with a focus on high concentration crystals and on interactions between the rare earth ions. My goal is to understand how the material properties affect the performance of devices such as quantum memories, and to use this information to identify more suitable materials.
